In war telegrams were used to send mesages to people.For example from the battle feild to base or sent to a soldiers family e.g MIA (missing in action) or KIA (killed in action).
Telegrams were also used for happy occassions too like a wedding or a birth of a child.
The messages were sent by morse code along the telegraph wires, The telegram was sent to the post office where someone would transfer the message from morse code to a letter then the postman would take the good (or not so good) news to the family.

MOTAT
On tuesday the 8th we went to motat
First we met Elain and she told us about motat and what we were going to do,then we put our bags away and we went off with our group.Our group went to the hands on area first; It was very fun!
Then we went on the tram,we went on the green one from melbourne.It was fun but the driver was a bit grumpy! when I was in Melbourne I went on one where we got dinner served.
Then we went on the VOYAGER it was so cool.You go into a spaceship like thing and sit on seats, you watch a screen and everything goes dark. Then the screen turns on.It's like you are in another world as you are watching it. You go through all these funny monsters and slime- its slightly strange. When it was finished the lady opened the door and we begged her for another one and she said... yes!!
After the voyager we went with Elaine to a room with lots of old telephones and typewriters. We sat down and talked about communication and how it was used. We started with visual(this is things like pictures and paintings).Seeing all the old cameras was very interesting.Then we moved in to written communication, there were old typewriters,fax macines,morse code macines and even the Ipad.The verbal section had very old telephones, mobiles and even record players.Did you know that very very early mobiles had to be carryed in a case, ha ha.Then we got to have a look around, I wrote my name on a type writer, wrote my name in morse code and did it in victorian script.
It had been a long day but we had todo one more thing......the mirror maze.It was awesome,there were mirrors on every wall, but there was a path you had to find.It was confusing at times but I did it.
Globalisation
Also my dad said when he was little there were no computers and there was only pens and paper.He also said having computers saves alot of time.My dad's dad worked in a bank and he had to put in all the numbers in by hand ; these days banks have computers and is obviously esier,quicker and more efficient.Despite all the good things about computers and the internet My dad thinks because of the speed and efficiency life may be becoming too fast.

During sci tech this week we have done alot of planing and drawing.Our class are making a natural cleaning agent. We were going to show the actual product itself but disappointingly it turns out we are not and we are actually just showing the bottles. The bad part about it is that I was really looking forward to making it and chosing the ingredients.My groups product is called natural clean crocodile.On our bottle we have the name and underneath the scent(crisp apple and lemon) and the catch phrase(wet it ,forget it) and a cute crocodile Polly copied from the internet.We had to draw a add for a news paper about it.On ours we have the bottle,the price,the catch phrase and some facts about it.
At school this week we wrote observational writing we had to draw a picture aswell.My table did it on the ten cent coin.We did it on monday and wednesday,on monday there was not much colonies of bacterium but on wednesday it had obviously been growing rapidly.I got to publish my one from monday.
At school today we did a work sheet were we got to write ingredients for making a spray cleaner.

Then I drew a picture of a spray cleaner.We also did alot of agar testing today,we tested things like katrinas tongue,the bathroom floor,the bin .ect I think it was last week we tested doms hand. It took a while for the bacteria to start growing but omg when it did it was sooooooooooooooooo big.there were three diferent bacteria was a circle like one, the other was long and hairy and there was another I canot remember its shape. It was gross,I am going to was my hands for the rest of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPEECHES
In school at the moment we are writing speeches. I am writing mine on the world without the internet. In our speeches we have to do a opening paragraph,three main points and a conclusion.the speech has to be 2.30 or 3.30 if less or more points are taken off. I think my speech is quite good and I may have a chance of getting into zones.And guess what i got in

Up up I went soaring high over Aukland city.I could not bear to open my eyes I was to high.I was slowing down ohh no we were about to drop click.No were dropping 3,2,1 I counted in my head.Ahhhh ha ha ha I was screaming with laughter. A tingle was running up my legs and now into my spine,it was a feeling of joy. best ride everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
MASKS Last week we made masks for our assembly.My mask is Tawhere-matea and has blue and purple on it.Around the eyes it have blue sparkly things.A special lady came in to help us, she gave us top tips on how to make your mask extra fantastic by adding extras or cutting eyes to a different shape.On most of our masks we put head peices or acessories to make the mask stand out on stage.On top of my mask I have blue celophane,fabric,tinsle and blue and silver paper.It was great doing masks because we had lots of fun.
This week we went to the hall and made some of our dance moves up for our assembly.I am Tawhere-matea (god of the winds) so is Andrew so our dance had to be about wind and moveing our body in wind like ways.polly and holly are gods of the earth and their part of the dance is where the earth opens up and swallows the fire.Ida and Ron are the fire they are runing after Lukas who is Maui.Ida does awesome backflips.
When we had roughly made our dance performed it infront of the class.
CULTURAL SHARING DAY
Last week we did cultural sharing day. this is where you bring in something important to your family or your culture.I shared my culture from australia. I talked about aboriginals, aboriganals are native australians. In their culture they like to paint. Their painting all have diferent meanings and paterns,in the paintings there are alot of dots. They make the paint by grounding rocks in australia most rocks are red.
Aboriginals use lots of diferent weapons the include:spears rocks traps ECT . they also have very uniqe instruments there is the digerydo whitch make diferent noises by the way you blow. there is also stics (not sure of the proper name) which you tap togeter to make noise.
ABORIGINAL DREAMTIME STORY
How The Sun Came To Be
Early in the Dreamtime, before the sun had begun to shine, there was a young woman who decided to leave her group because the old people would not allow her to marry the lover of her choice.
She went a long way from the tribe and hid in a dry, rocky area. There was very little food and water here and no safe place to sleep. The young woman was hungry, thirsty and tired but she would not give up and return to her people. Then she saw that a group of men from her tribe were coming to take her back no matter what. She ran even further into the dryest part of the land.
Soon she was exhausted and bruised by branches and rocks, she was near to death but somehow she managed to keep going. Eventually her ancestor spirits became so worried. They lifted her gently away in to the sky world, where she slept peacefully for a long time.
When she awoke she found plenty of food and water and lit a camp fire. She was all alone but not afraid . She was as determined as ever to live alone rather than return to her tribe.As she looked down on them she saw that most of the men and women were sad that she had gone. After a few days she found she was feeling very homesick but now she belonged to the sky world and was unable to return home.
As she watched her people she saw that they were cold. Because they were doing their chores they could not sit by their camp fires and keep warm.
The young woman decided to build up her camp fire and make it so big that it would warm all the people down below as they went about their day. So all day long she built up her fire to give warmth to her people and as night came she let her fire die down as they were then able to sit by their own camp fires.
When she saw how happy this made her people, she made up her mind to light her camp fire every day. Soon her people began to look each morning for her giant fire. They were very grateful for the warmth it gave them and they called it 'The Sun'.
DANCE
ON monday we did another dance session. this time we got in pairs and followed each other around while doing dance moves, this is called locomotion or traveling. after we did that we performed infront of the class.
At scool on monday we did dance. firstly we spread out and found our own space,we felt around our space, jumped in and out of our space and we made creative moves. these moves were symetrycal and twisted.we got paired up with a partner and made a routine useing the symetrycal and twisted shapes. I was paired with Hannah we made
up our dance and performed it to the class. I like danceing because you can express yourself through music and the way you use your body.
GARDEN TO TABLE
At school we do garden to table. Garden to table is where the gardening group goes to collect fresh produce and attends to the garden while the cooking group stay in the kitchen making all kinds of scrumptious tasty treats to feast on. This week I was in the cooking group. I made a very yummy salad that included carrot, celery, capciscum and other ingredients. In the salad we also added a dressing. It was made from Italian red wine vinegar, lemon juice and parsley. We also made an egg dish and fejoa amber.When we had finished we took all our beautiful foods and placed them on the tables. All the food tasted really good .My favorite was the fejoa amber because it melted in my mouth as I ate it. I really like garden to table because it is a change from school work.
ART
This week we did art.Firstly Miss Elis showed us how to do the textures and styles. They were wet on wet, dry on dry and weton dry. Then we went to our desks to start, first I choose my colour then I started to paint a endangered sea animal. When we were finished we put our paintings on the floor to look at what we had done. My one wasn't verry good.
EOTC WEEK
On Monday we went to the Orakei Marae. It was realy interesting because we learnt about the history of the Marae.
On Tuesday we went to Tree Adventures.At tree adventures we got to do a series of chalenges . The first challenge was a practice course ,a simple course involving easy things such as ladder climbing and a small flying fox. As the challenges went on they got more challenging. Course four was the last course I did. The most challenging part of this was the tarzan rope this was where you had to siton a seat that was conected to the wire above you. Then you flying through the air When you got to the end you had to grab onto the net. The net was really wobbly which made it even harder. When I got to the net my heart went to sleep , I just couldnot do it. As I pulled my self over to the platform I noticed that the swing was caught around my legs . When I finally got to the end of the course I was so relieved.On wednesday we went to the park and did orientiring. It was really fun because we got to see wildlife . When we got to the park we got in our groups. In my group I had my friends which made it even more fun. Next we looked at our maps to know where we will would be going. As we wallked of onto the bridge the excitment bubbled up inside me. When we came across the first marker we ran strait to it. I think that orientiring was my favourite activity.On Thursday we went to the wave pools. It was so exciting because there was a water slide and wave pools. I got to be in my mum 's group . In my group I was with my friends Ida and Soph. When the waves cameII had more excitment than 100,000,000 people all excited. The waves werenot the size of real waves but it felt like I was at the beach.
It was a great week!!!
